WHY THE RESTFUL TONGUE?

Hi, I’m Kate, a mom of two, and the creator of The Restful Tongue; a calm space for parents who want to understand their child’s airway, oral, and sleep health without the overwhelm or fear.

My journey into airway health started the way many do; as a parent just trying to figure out why my baby couldn’t sleep.

The Sleepless Nights That Started It All

My first child woke every few hours. Not just for a few months, but well into toddlerhood.
She snored, gasped, and struggled through the night, and while everyone told me she was “just a bad sleeper,” my mom gut knew there was something more.

I spent years searching for answers, trying every sleep strategy, but nothing worked long-term. It wasn’t until my second child was born, and it was immediately clear that he had a tongue tie, that everything started to make sense.

That discovery sent me deep into the world of tongue ties, airway development, and oral function — and I quickly realized my daughter’s struggles were connected. Her undiagnosed tongue tie had led to a high palate, restricted tongue movement, and ongoing breathing and airway issues that disrupted her sleep for years.

What I Learned and How It Changed Everything

Through my research, I discovered the importance of myofunctional therapy and craniosacral therapy as gentle, effective ways to prepare the body before a tongue tie release and support healing afterward.

These therapies are now part of both of my children’s care helping their muscles, posture, and breathing work in harmony.
But just as important as what I learned about therapy, was what I realized about the messaging around airway health.

Why I Created The Restful Tongue

As I researched, I noticed a troubling pattern: so many websites and social media accounts use fear to capture parents’ attention, making them feel panicked or pressured into buying products or booking consultations right away.

While airway health is incredibly important, it is not always an emergency and I believe parents deserve to learn about it calmly, clearly, and confidently.

That’s why I created The Restful Tongue:
to be a gentle, trustworthy space where parents can:

  • Understand their child’s airway, oral, and sleep health

  • Access information without fear tactics

  • Learn at their own pace with empathy and clarity

I share what I’ve learned from lived experience and evidence based research to help other parents recognize signs, find the right professionals, and feel empowered instead of overwhelmed.

Real guidance from a parent who’s been there

I’m driven by a simple goal: to guide parents with knowledge, empathy, and experience. The Restful Tongue’s vision is a world where every child thrives through better airway, oral, and sleep health.
